There’s been a lot of attention around Edgar Wright this past week thanks to The Avengers igniting the worldwide box office aflame. With an Ant-Man photo tease that hasn’t been elaborated on, it seems like it could in fact be the director’s next project. Now, however, Working Title Productions has revealed that the long awaited final installment in the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy will finally come to light early next year as the film receives a production start.
Deadline reports that The World’s End, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, will being filming in September. Universal Pictures has not yet green lit the film yet, but is expected too after the trio’s success in the past. The comedy is aiming for a release in the Spring of next year, with a script from Wright and Pegg as well.
The film is given it’s first plot details as its described, “20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.”
It’s uncertain just how the three other childhood friends will be accompanying Pegg and Frost, but there’s a good chance that they’ll likely be made up of past actors from the trilogy so far. Personally, I’d like to see Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, and a female participant with either Jessica Hynes, Kate Ashfield, or Lucy Davis filling the role.
Interestingly enough, with a fast production track, Wright could still possibly do Ant-Man if the time calls for it. If the superhero effort is aiming for the mystery 2014 date, he could still shoot in Early 2013, with a year’s worth of post-production to develop the film for Marvel. The World’s End will be Wright’s first film from the critically loved and cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and the director is also developing The Night Stalker for Disney as a possible starring role for Johnny Depp as well.
