‘Epic Movie’ Helmers to Spoof ‘The Hunger Games’ in New Film ‘The Starving Games’

Oh no, not again...

Remember when there was once a time where Scary Movie was the only parody series out there? Well, the successful comedies that poked fun at other films ended up spawning a slew of other parody movies that audiences eventually learned to live without. Now, with Scary Movie 5 in development, it seems we’ll be subjected to even more stupid films like Diaster Movie. Now, the duo that brought us the latter are reuniting once again to spoof some of the biggest films of the year so far.

Variety’s Showblitz reports that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are banding together to write and direct a new film called The Starving Games. The main parody will be that of the worldwide phenomenon The Hunger Games, while also finding time to take jabs at The AvengersSherlock Holmes, and even Harry Potter (the two have been out of it for four years, so apparently they need to catch up).

International rights will be sold at this month’s Cannes Film Festival, and no studio is currently attacked. K5 productions will be the comapny selling the rights.

Seltzer and Friedberg are responsible for nearly every spoof outside of the Scary Movie franchise, including Vampires Suck, the aforementioned Epic Movie and Disaster MovieDate Movie, and even Meet The Spartans. Each one of their efforts has received universal panning from critics, but their earlier efforts have found some box office success. Date Movie made its entire budget back in a single weekend, and it’s through that success they continued to rampage theaters until Disaster Movie dealt them a blow. Vampires Suck surprisingly earned $80 million worldwide, proving the duo weren’t ready to give up just yet.
