After years of “will they, won’t they” talks Dimension Films is finally going through with Sin City 2, subtitled A Dame To Kill For, and developments have slowly been working their way through as the film nears a vague summer filming start. With some key principal actors already signed, more moves are expected to be made in the upcoming months. Now, it seems the studio has made the biggest move of all and has set a release date for the upcoming film.
Variety’s Jeff Sneider reports that Dimension has set Sin City: A Dame to Kill For to be released into theaters on October 4th, 2013. The film will be going up against the untitled Walt Disney film from director Henry Selick, and avoids what may be a large opening weekend for the Pixar film Walking with Dinosaurs the week afterwards.
The only confirmed castmembers for the sequel so far happen to be Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, and Michael Madsen, who will all be reprising their roles from the first film. Given the source material from the graphic novel of the same name, it’s said that Clive Owen’s character of Dwight may be a big player in the second film, and yet there has been no word on bringing the actor back thus far. Other actors are also in the process of returning as well, and it’s expected that Jessica Alba may easily reprise her role as Nancy, though her role is incredibly small in the comic of A Dame to Kill For.
Filming is scheduled to being later this summer, with both Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez behind the camera. Rodriguez is tasked also with another sequel Machete Kills, which he will film first, but has said he will leave the film to direct Sin City 2 should the production call for it.
