‘Community’ Renewed For A Shortened Fourth Season!

While tonight’s all-new episode has begun to air on NBC, the question of whether or not the hit comedy of Community would be renewed was still very much lingering. After a massive fan campaign, what many call the smartest and best comedy on television has certainly gone through the motions this year. Now, it seems NBC has recognized those efforts, and Community will be back for Season 4…with a catch.

As THR reports, Community has been given only a 13 episode fourth season. It’s unclear if fans will have to wait until the fall, or even the mid-season to see the new episodes, but just the fact the gang will be back is certainly a sigh of relief. The series will air a three episode season ending night next Thursday, with NBC’s upfronts scheduled for this Monday.

The 13 episode order is reminiscent of that of 30 Rock’s seventh and final season order, which received the same number of episodes. With a large amount of pick ups so far, it’s likely that NBC may be going for shorter seasons for all of its programs, but nothing has yet been confirmed by the network.

However, not every single question has been answered. After the very public feud between Chevy Chase and Dan Harmon, it’s unclear if the veteran comedic actor will return as Pierce Hawthorne, especially as Chase has still shown plenty disdain even recently for the creator and the series itself despite still speaking highly of the cast.

Community‘s three episode finale begins next week at 8PM on NBC.
