With the horror remake Carrie set to begin filming next month, it’s been interesting to see who will join lead actress Chloe Moretz. With Julianne Moore in talks, it was unclear if the actress would in fact be playing the very controlling and abusive mother of the titular character. Now, not only do we have the reason behind the telekinetic child’s anger, but we also have an all-new actress joining the cast.
Deadline reports that Julianne Moore has officially signed on to play Carrie’s mother Margaret White, while young actress Gabriella Wilde has signed on to play the role of Sue Snell. Moore’s role of White is that of an abusive and very religious mother who believes her daughter’s powers are that of the devil’s, while Wilde’s character of Snell is actually the lead character of those peers who bully Carrie, and is the kindest of the bunch.
With a script penned by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and set to be directed by Kim Peirce, the film will be more of a remake of Stpehen King’s novel rather than the famous ’70s adaptation. Last time we heard, MGM CEO Roger Birnbaum also remarked that the film would use a found footage aspect, with interviews from high schoolers following the prom incident likely to be the source. No definite decision has yet been made, but it will likely be confirmed or denied as principal photography begins soon.
Carrie is set to hit theaters on March 13th, 2013.
