With the first preview poster officially out the door, the most notable absence from the upcoming sequel Red 2 happens to be that of Morgan Freeman. With one less elder hero joining the squad, and a couple younger faces added to the cast, it seems there needs to be even more of an A-list roster to live up to the mildly impressive original. Now, it seems by Odin’s beard that one veteran actor may just want in on the action.

Deadline reports that Anthony Hopkins is currently in negotations to join Red 2, but there seems to be one big catch.Red 2 aims to film later this summer and Hopkins want to join the production, as Hopkins would play the villainous role of Edward Bailey. But the problem lies with the fact that Thor 2 is also set to film later this summer, and Hopkins is commited to reprising his role as Thor’s father Odin.

Hopkins is currently filming the buzzed biopic Hitchcock as the titular character, and then is expected to head over to London for Thor 2‘s production. Interestingly enough, Red 2 is set in Europe which means filming could also happen overseas, possibly giving the chance for Hopkins to make his way between both sets in a flash.

RED 2 brings back the team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe. 

Starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Byung-Hun Lee, the film is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2013.
