Shonda Rhimes has three series at ABC: Grey’s Anatomy,Private Practice, and Scandal. With one of the three renewed, it’s been said that it if Private Practice or Scandal are renewed, the news will likely mean doom for the other. While it’s be said that Private Practice may be renewed for a sixth and final season, it seems Rhimes will certainly enjoy having her new series around just a bit longer.
Rhimes tweeted this evening, “Am super proud to say that @ScandalABC has been picked for a 2nd season!!! Am doing a little dance of joy. Still waiting to hear on [Private Practice]…”
Scandal revolves around former White House Communications Director Oliva Pope (Kerry Washington) who has begun her own crisis management firm. The White House Chief of Staff and President of the United States still are involved within the drama, as are actors Henry Ian Cusick (Lost) and Columbus Short. The season finale is set to air next Thursday night on ABC.
Grey’s Anatomy was renewed earlier this week after stars Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, and Sandra Oh signed brand new deals for a possible two additional seasons. It’s still unclear who else return, but likely that will be straightened out in the coming months. Meanwhile, Private Practice‘s short move to Tuesday nights have impressed the network, and it may be a glimmer of hope for the show to return for one final season.
ABC has yet to announced any pilot pickups, as they’ve only announce major renewals thus far. Seven series were renewed last night, including Suburgatory, Revenge, Once Upon a Time, and Modern Family, along with comedy Happy Endingsearlier today.
