Ever since it’s first trailer last month, Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming HBO series The Newsroom has gained an amazing amount of buzz, a release date has finally been set, and former Sorkin collaborator Jesse Eisenberg has been revealed to make a voiceover cameo in the pilot. Now, HBO is continuing the hype with another all-new trailer for the summer series, which focuses more on the team behind the scenes, and the program in general, rather than simply Jeff Daniels’ character.
Unlike the previous trailer, which showed much more of the dramatic side of the series, this one actually has a decent number of laughs. Dev Patel, Alison Pill, and Jeff Daniels all have one-liners that add humor to the news satire, which had a very hard hitting dramatic outlook by the first trailer. Here, the series is brimming with plenty of comedy while never ditching that tone established in the first video. We also have some a romantic storyline set up, plenty of witty dialogue, and just another overall promising look.
From the mind of The West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin comes The Newsroom, a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.
The Newsroom will kick off a ten episode first season on June 24th at 10PM on HBO.
