Earlier this year, actor Neal McDonough brought up the notion that a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie was possibly in the works for 2014, with Marvel still having yet to reveal just what their second film of that year will be. While nothing concrete hasn’t surfaced yet,The Avengers press junkets should be the ground for any questions that may actually be answered. Now, Samuel L. Jackson has spoken about the possibility of taking the lead reigns as Nick Fury.
In an interview with MTV, Jackson said, ”I’m a comic book fan. I know what I’d like to see, but I don’t know how much they want to present to people. I don’t know how much of S.H.I.E.L.D. [Marvel wants] to expose… or they want to create a world where–I mean, we’re not superheroes. We’re more of a shadow world. So, it would be more like ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ with good toys—closer to a ‘Bond’ movie than a superhero movie.”
Jackson also says that if there were to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, it would have to consist of Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Maria Hill, as they are all essential elements to the organization, and he really couldn’t do a movie without them.
Since McDonough’s reveal, the rumors of a possible movie regarding the major defense branch has been tossed around, but really only quietly. So far, half of what the actor revealed in his interview has proved to be true, as he stated that Captain America 2 would begin filming later this year. He said a S.H.I.E.L.D. film would film right after, with Dum Dum Dugan playing a part, which sound like right in the perfect spot for that mystery 2014 release set for May 16th.
However, judging by Jackson’s statement here, they all sound very hypothetical in tone. If he has any information on a possible movie, he’s likely keeping it close to his vest.
After The Avengers, the actor has five more appearance set in his nine film deal with Marvel, which will most likely be met withCaptain America 2, The Avengers 2, and Iron Man 3. An appearance in Thor 2 is up in the air, but likely, while a S.H.I.E.L.D. film would ultimately fulfill the contract.
We’ll keep you posted on any updates on the possible film as they develop.
