Though we’re still six months away from the season premiere of the hit drama series, American Horror Story has been posing plenty of questions about the second season. While we know a good portion of who the hell will be returning, the setting seemed to be a large portion of that mystery. With a hint from the get go, Ryan Murphy finally opened up, and revealed just what exactly he means by “horror institution”.
At an event for American Horror Story yesterday, via The Academy for Television Arts & Sciences, TV Line reports that Murphy told the crowd, ”[Season 2] is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica [Lange's new character].” Further increasing the incredibly intriguing news, it was also said that the next season takes place in a completely different time period, compared to the modern-day first season.
The recently signed-on Lizzie Brochere, who’s character is modeled after the Angelina Jolie character in Girl Interrupted, is expected to be one of those in the criminally insane asylum. It’s unclear where the other returning stars will fit in, such as Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe, but there’s a good chance they’ll play some inmates as well.
Joining them will be Adam Levine, who Murphy finally confirmed that they have officially signed to appear in the series’ second season. “He’s a sexy guy so he needs to play a sexy guy, but the guy that is different than who you think he would play. I pitched him the part and he listened, slack jawed, and simply said, ‘I’m in.’”
American Horror Story‘s second season won’t premiere until mid-October on FX.
