Cartoon Network Unveils ‘Adventure Time: The Complete First Season’ DVD

It’s pretty rare when Cartoon Network released an entire season of one of their series on DVD. Classic series such as Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, and more have received the treatment, but when it comes to newer series, the shows are simply released in volume sets where it doesn’t quite feel like you’re getting enough bang for your buck. Now, perhaps the network is out to change that, as they’ve just announced a complete first season package for their hit Adventure Time. See what it will be made of, including the cover art and more, right below…

MTV released details on the upcoming home video release this morning, which is set to bring together the first 26 11-minute episodes of the Emmy award winning series. This announcement comes on the verge of the show’s fourth season premiere, which will occur this coming Monday April 2nd.

“Since our first DVD release last September, fans have been telling us nonstop that they want to own full season sets of Adventure Time on DVD. Because the show is for everyone, both kids and adults, we’re really happy we can put this out,” said Erik Resnick, vice president of Cartoon Network Enterprises, the home entertainment division of Cartoon Network. “In addition to the great episodes, Pendleton and the show team have created some great bonus features on this set that we’re sure fans will love.”‘

This first season release may also have to do with the overwhelming amount of negative reviews on the previous DVD release It Came from the Nightosphere Amazon page, with many citing that the random collection of episodes was mindless as they wanted full season releases. A similar movement is happening with Cartoon Network’s other hit show with a devoted fanbase Regular Show gaining negative reviews as well, despite the fact the random episodes have not even hit stores yet.

Along with the 26 episodes, the set also includes “behind-the-scenes featurettes, commentary by creator Pendleton Ward and the Adventure Time crew on select episodes along with actor commentaries interspersed throughout the set, and animatics with commentary from Ward, allowing viewers to see some of the process behind getting Adventure Time to the small screen each week.”

The first season set will be available only on DVD (sorry Blu-Ray fans) and is set for release on July 10th, at a list bring of $26.95.
