It’s almost hard to believe that we haven’t seen a new episode of the hit metal comedy Metalocalypse on Adult Swim since before Halloween of 2010. The series has always had a weird production schedule, as the show has been around since 2006, so the wait really isn’t anything new to fans. But now, it seems Adult Swim has a surprise for viewers as they’ve announced today that they only have to wait a few more weeks until Dethklok is back on television.
MTV reports that Metalocalypse will return with its fourth season premiere on Sunday April 29th with new episodes airing at 12:15 AM. Unlike the third season, however, the series will be going back to an 11 minute running time, after a year of half hour episodes. The fourth season will only consist of 12 episodes.
The series follows massively popular band Dethklok, who seems to bring death and destruction with them wherever they go thanks to their crazy fans and powerful music. Detailing the comedic happenings of the band members, the band is also being observed by an Illuminati-like group called The Tribunal, who are led by a mysterious Mr. Selatica who insists that this power to upset the status quo is the beginning of an ancient Sumerian prophecy about an Apocalpyse of Metal.
Featuring the voices of creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, and Victor Brandt, the show has been incredibly popular. Two albums of the band’s songs have been released, along with touring the country for concerts, and even four comic books have been created as well. All three seasons have been released on DVD, with the third also hitting Blu-Ray.
