300: Battle of Artemisia, which is said might have a name change coming soon, will hit theaters August 2nd. This will be the third sequel to be released on the date as the action film will go up against The Smurfs 2 and RED 2. The film, helm by Noam Murro, has recently signed Eva Green to be a lead villain alongside returning Rodrigo Santoro, who will reprise his role as Xerxes.
The Hangover: Part III, meanwhile, will open earlier in the summer on May 24th, interestingly going up against Fast Six. The May release date seemingly confirmed what has been passed around for months now by the actor’s comments that production will start sometime this summer. The original actors are all set to return, along with director/writer Todd Phillips.
Finally, Pacific Rim, the next sci-fi epic from Guillermo Del Toro, will hit theaters on July 12th, going up against Adam Sandler’s first sequel Grown Ups 2. Starring Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Robert Kazinsky, and more, the film is based around a future “where soldiers pilot giant robots against giant monsters who have mysteriously risen five miles beneath the ocean”. Rim is a homage to giant monsters movies, known as the kaiju genre, in Japan.
