IFC is coming off a pretty big year of Portlandia, seemingly everyone’s favorite hit indie comedy, and they’re looking to expand they’re programming even more. While Marc Maron’s new series has been a huge talk of the town, IFC has revealed a list of new content that will be coming to the network. And not only will Portlandia seemingly be receiving two new specials, but an animated series, and the continuation of R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet has been revealed.
IFC revealed a list of new content that’s coming to the network. While we revealed last week that Portlandia had been renewed for a third season, IFC also revealed thatPortlandia: The Brunch Special and “Another Portlandia special in time for the holidays” will be hitting later this year. The Brunch Special will air sometime this summer, while the 30-minute holiday special is set to air late in the year.
Meanwhile, the new series Maron, from hit comedian and podcaster Marc Maron, has received a synopsis from the network as well:
“MARON (working title) Premieres 3Q 2013 Marc Maron has been a comedian for 25 years. He’s had his problems. He was an angry, drunk, self involved, twice divorced compulsive mess for most of his adult life, but with the popularity of a podcast he does in his garage and a life of sobriety, his life and career are turning around. MARON (wt) explores a fictionalized version of Marc’s life, his relationships, and his career, including his incredibly popular WTF podcast, which features conversations Marc conducts with celebrities and fellow comedians. Neurosis intact, Maron is uniquely fascinating, absolutely compelling and brutally funny. Produced for IFC by Fox Television Studios and Denis Leary and Jim Serpico’s Apostle, MARON (wt) is directed by Oscar(R) winning director Luke Matheny (God of Love) and executive produced by Marc Maron, Denis Leary, Jim Serpico, Olivia Wingate, and Duncan Birmingham, who also serves as the series’ writer.”
Next up, the network announced a new animated series will be hitting in the next year called Out There, which ”follows the coming-of-age adventures of Chad, his little brother Jay, and best friend Chris. Living in a small town, the boys run face first into the wall of adolescence, the horrors of puberty, first loves, mortal enemies, local legends, and social ostracism. They experience the wonderment and frustration of that terrifying limbo between childhood and adulthood.”
The series was created, written by and executive produced by Emmy winning animation director and producer, Ryan Quincy, who was the longtime animation director for South Park. Out There is scheduled to begin in January 2013. Along with the description, they also released the first image (click to enlarge):
Finally, this Winter will bring back an R. Kelly classic that many will be sure to remember. Seven years ago, R. Kelly began to release what would eventually go on to becomes a 22-chapter dramatic musical opera called Trapped in the Closet. With one of the most memorable performances in MTV VMA history, eventually the series ended.
Now, R. Kelly will be returning to the format with more stories, and they’ve released the official teaser video:
