First Look at Russell Crowe in ‘Les Miserables’

While last week brought the first look of Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in his prisoner garb, Les Miserables production continues forward. Playing opposite Jackman is the role of Russell Crowe as the man destined to take Valjean down for good. Now, the antagonist makes his way on to the set as filming continues during the rough prison times for Jackman’s character. What does Crowe’s Javert look like? We have the pictures.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Anne Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Crowe’s outfit below certainly looks like a bit Napoleon-like, and actually made me chuckle a little bit. It’ll be interesting to see what comesout of his portrayal, and he is dressed rather fancy, but if he’s dressed like this the entire film, I don’t know how seriously I can take the film (personally).

Also starring Samantha Barks, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, and directed by Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), Les Miserables is set to be released on December 7th.
