Dolph Lundgren Is Next Actor To Say ‘The Expendables 2′ Is Back To Rated-R

The ratings squabble on The Expendables 2 has really been a back and forth process. First, Chuck Norris claimed the film was PG-13 due to his involvement, with Sylvester Stallone then backing up the comments. Then a couple weeks ago, Stallone himself had reportedly said the film was back to being a Rated-R affair. While no official confirmation has yet come out, especially with the MPAA having a final say in everything, another cast member of the action sequel has entered the reports by backing up Stallone’s latest claim.

Dolph Lundgren told Empire that “I heard that it’s now R again. Stallone’s basic setting is to make it very violent. That’s just in his personality, and if it was me I would do the same.” He continued, “I guess the producers figure they can make another $50m if it’s PG-13, and if it was my money I might say the same thing! But I think for the fans, if it’s tougher it’s better.”

Again this isn’t an official rating, just simply that the film is aiming for. They could in fact be aiming for an R-rating, and wind up with a PG-13 after all. However, with the MPAA making multiple headlines already due to ratings squabbles numerous times this year, it’ll be interesting to see what happens. What will also be intriguing is Norris’ response to the possible R-rated sequel. Norris had said he would only appear if the film was PG-13, and if the film ends up being Rated-R after all, it could upset the actor.

The Expendables 2, directed by Simon West, and starring co-starring Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and more, will open on August 17th.
