Disney has re-released multiple films in glorious HD on Blu-Ray these past few years. The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Lady and The Tramp, Dumbo, and numerous others have received the upgrade and have been bought by many. Now, Disney has made an announcement sure to excite fans as eight films will be getting their time in the sun, including a few Disney classics.
Animation Magazine reports that Treasure Planet will hit be the first of eight films to hit Blu-Ray on July 3rd, with the release ofPocahontas, The Rescuers, The Aristocats, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp’s Adventure, Pete’s Dragon, and The Tigger Movie all hitting the format this fall.
It’s not clear if any of these will be released in a special edition packaging, but it’s expected that Pocahontas be released in a special Diamond Edition. Treasure Planet, meanwhile, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary, hitting Blu-Ray just a few months earlier than its original theatrical date from Thanksgiving 2002.
All eight films join previous announced Blu-Ray releasesAladdin, which is set to hit the format next Spring, andCinderella, which will be released in a Diamond Edition packaging this October.
Exact release dates have yet to be revealed.
