It was just last week when we reported that Nathan Fillion would be joining the upcoming sequel Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters. Fillion, before Castle, is probably best known for his Whedonverse roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and even Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog. So, it only seems fitting that yet another Whedonverse alum joins along side the actor in the upcoming film.
Anthony Head, who played mentor Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has joined the second Percy Jackson film as a replacement for Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan previously played the role of centaur Chrion, the leader of the titular hero’s demigod training facility Camp Half-Blood. Head will be stepping in after Brosnan has chosen not to return.
Head has recently been a major factor in the television seriesMerlin, and has also appeared in the Oscar-nominated film The Iron Lady, for which Meryl Streep won one of the coveted awards for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher.
Two years ago, the first Percy Jackson film, subtitled The Lightning Thief, grossed over $226 million worldwide. The next film will feature returning actors Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, and Brandon T. Jackson, while Fillion joins the film as the god Hermes, along with Missi Pyle, Yvette Nicole Brown, and more. Thor Freudenthal will be directing.
Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters is set to be released on March 27th 2013, with production scheduled to begin next month.
