Though four games have been released in the Assassin’s Creedseries, the franchise broke the number scheme after the second one, as it really was an extension of Assassin’s Creed II, spanning three games, and focusing on the character of Ezio. As expected the annual series is coming out with another title late this year, and it was previously rumored that it would effectively end the tale of main character Desmond, and would be simply title Assassin’s Creed III. Now today, Ubisoft has revealed that the game is real, when gamers can pick up their copies, and even the impressive development time on the next title.
IGN reports that in a Ubisoft earnings conference call today, the developer revealed that Assassin’s Creed III is coming this October 30th, which is the first time in the series’ history the release of an Assassin’s Creed game has been outside of November for consoles.
Surprisingly enough, CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the upcoming third numbered entry of the franchise has been in development for a whopping three years, meaning right afterAssassin’s Creed II, the game began production, and is easily the longest developed entry in the series.
The game will indeed finish the story of Desmond, and though no story information has yet been revealed, it’s expected that instead of a past ancestor of Desmond’s, this time we’ll be playing the full title as the character himself, taking on the Abstergo Corporation that is consisted of Templars, while also possibly teaming up with his father William, who was briefly introduced at the end of the last game.
Furthermore, the game’s release comes just in time to coincide with the initial deadline the first title set out for the series, revealing a major possibly world-ending event to come at the end of 2012. It was hinted at the end of Revelations that it will be Desmond’s duty to stop it.
No systems have been revealed, but you can expect Xbox 360, PS3, PC and even the new console WiiU to receive the upcoming final chapter of Desmond.
