After the “success” of The Devil Inside, the director of the film William Brent Bell originally signed deals for two found footage films. One is still in the process of having its script written over at Warner Brothers called The Vatican. The other was untitled, keep under wraps to help keep the plot a secret as well. Now, Bell’s next project will be definitely keeping with the supernatural theme, as the title has been revealed, and may introduce a new look with the found footage scheme of things.
Screen Daily (via STYD) says the film’s title is Wer, and begins production in Romania on April 9th. Bell co-wrote the screenplay with Matthew Peterman, with both producing the project as well.
Now, STYD believes the title “Wer” is a shortened version of the term “Werewolf”, meaning we could see the first found footage version of a werewolf story within the genre. That sounds actually very exciting, and would definitely attract a great number of eyeballs.
However, Wer is also a German translation for “Who”, a country that Romania is pretty damn close to on the map. So, the film could also very much not have to deal with a werewolf at all. Interestingly enough though, the Romanian setting doesn’t stray too far away from the very infamous Transylvania. Could the film be rooted around the haunting town? Seems extremely likely. Of course, this is all presumption as the plot has been kept very tightly under wraps.
We’ll keep you updated on any new developments from the upcoming film.
