‘Suburgatory’ Star Replaces Lily Collins in ‘Evil Dead’ Remake As Female Lead

Just earlier this morning, we reported that Shiloh Fernandez gained the role of the male lead in the upcoming remake to the cult horror hit Evil Dead. With Lily Collins out as the main female, we had absolutely no clue who would take her spot as Fernandez’ sister within the film. Now, Collins has officially been replaced with a star who has already had a big year on television.

Deadline reports that Jane Levy, the main character of the hit freshman comedy Suburgatory on ABC, has gained the female role in Evil Dead. Levy’s role will be of Mia, the drugged out sister recovering from her addiction in a cabin with five other friends, including her brother Ash (though it’s said that won’t be the final name of Ferenandez’ character). They eventually come across the Book of the Dead and…well, evil definitely ensues.

The film is slated to go into production late next month, with a release set for April 12th, 2013. Gaining the two lead roles is definitely a big step forward for director Fede Alvarez, who’s working off a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sagueyes, and with writer Diablo Cody revising the latest draft of the script.

Levy really began to wow audiences in Suburgatory when it premiered in September, and the show became a talked about hit, providing successful ratings for ABC, and has gained a great fanbase behind it. Levy co-stars with Jeremy Sisto, Alan Tudyk, Chris Parnell, and many more, and the series is fully expected to be picked up for a second season.
