A little while ago, we reported on the big rumor that DC is continuting Smallville in comic book form, just like Dark Horse has done with Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Charmed. It was to have comic writer and past Smallville scribe himself Bryan Q. Miller, but other than that, we were in the dark on everything else. Now, DC has officially revealed the comic, and we have the release date, the first cover, and what the plot will delve into (yes, this includes what characters will be showing up).
DC revealed the comics late in the night the new series, saying that at first the comic will only appear in digital form. “The new digital first series will be published digitally on April 13th, 2012, with new digital chapters released weekly thereafter,” the DCU Blog reports. “Additionally, the online chapters will be offered in a print periodical, along with an episode guide to the hit television series, with the first print issue released on May 16th.”
Joining Miller will be print cover artist Gary Frank, digital cover artist Cat Staggs, and interiors by Pere Perez (BATGIRL). In fact Staggs created the first cover for the upcoming series, which you can see right below (click to enlarge):
But, what about the story itself? Where do we find the television man of steel after the series finale? Miller says that the story will take place six months after Clark sent Apokolips back into the sky from where it came, and will deal with Clark’s first year in the suit. Furthermore, it will indeed feature the supporting cast of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane.
But, who else could possibly show up? Could Brainiac return to wreak havoc? Will the Justice League fully become the team they set out to be? Hell, could Clark meet Batman? With the sky being the limit, the fans’ wildest dreams could come true at this point.
