It was awhile ago when it was revealed that Dimension Films was trying to get together a remake of the hit 80s film Short Circuit. It was pitched, and was a high-profile project for Bob Weinstein. However, no script has yet been written, despite the aiming of a release for next year and the hiring of director Tim Hill. Now, Dimension has hired a writer, who’s place of graduation is definitely an impressive feat.
ComingSoon reports that Matt Lieberman, who just exited the Disney writers program, has been hired by Dimension to pen the script for the upcoming remake. It’s unknown just when production will start, but with Lieberman being hired as scribe, it could start late summer or early fall.
Short Circuit is scheduled to be the first of a planned franchise, which would really be Dimension’s first kid-friendly series sinceSpy Kids. David Foster, who produced the original, is producing with Ryan E. Heppe, John Hyde and Brian Manis.
The film is set to hit in Summer 2013.
