We all remember how Green Lantern went. Met with plenty of criticism online, eventually wowing people with a Wondercon extended trailer, and disappointing at the box office due to the critically negative reviews. Whether or not that series might just continue is still a question, but Ryan Reynolds is continuing the comic book to film genre elsewhere. While Deadpool may be filming later this year, R.I.P.D. is already in the bag. However, a source from the set reports that the movie may not be worth the cash.
Flixist reports that a source the set calls the final product of the film “a $200 million train wreck that is a Men in Black wannabe”. Well, doesn’t that sting a little?
The site says they won’t reveal who it is, but they’re not involved in the post-production process, and yet was heavily involved during principal photography. It’s said the film was worked on for five months, and that post-production will be a long process. Special effects is the film’s trickiest element, which is exactly why the film has a release date for next summer. But, it’s said that even with special effects treatments coming in, the film may still continue editing.
There’s a chance it could be turned around in editing, but this statement coming straight from the production seems like the film could be headed into real trouble. With faces like Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, and more, the summer blockbuster is poised to definitely attract plenty of people. But, it seems very much that Reynolds could be headed for another bomb, which is disappointing given that Green Lantern slowed down his Hollywood fast track.
We’ll keep you posted on R.I.P.D. as it gears up for release in the coming year.
What do you think? Could the film be as bad as the on-site source is saying?
