Official Poster for Season 2 of ‘Game of Thrones’ Is No Iron Throne, But It Certainly Is Powerful

Around this time last year, HBO released the official poster forGame of Thrones‘ first season. Eventually it went on to become a very iconic image of the series, which featured Sean Bean as Eddard Stark sitting in the Iron Throne. Hell, it’s even being featured as the cover of this Tuesday’s home video release. Now, HBO has released the official poster for the second season of the series, and while it doesn’t revolve around one specific character, it’s certainly a statement to excite fans.

EW premiered the poster (click to enlarge):

While it’s not based on one character, and it may lack the iconic imagery of the first poster, it certainly speaks volumes. The civil war for king will tear apart Westeros at any cost, and who will come out the victor has yet to be determined. Between the House of Baratheon, King Joffrey himself, Robb Stark’s men, Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons, Tywin Lannister playing a hand in the battles, and more, it’s certainly heating up to be a battle that many fans want to see.

Game of Thrones premieres April 1st on HBO.

What do you think of the official poster? Iconic, or dull compared to last year’s?
