Michael Ian Black Says ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Sequel Is “Not Locked Into Place”

The entire internet went crazy earlier this month when Michael Showalter revealed that a Wet Hot American Summer sequel was “absolutely happening”. However, since the two word reveal, not much has been expanded on just yet. Now, Michael Ian Black is talking about his upcoming memoir release, and when asked about the sequel, his response may be a bit discouraging for fans expecting a close production start.

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the magazine asked Ian Black about Showalter’s confirmation. “It’s not true. It’s not not true, but he made it sound like the movie was in preproduction, and it’s not.”

While this may seem disappointing, rest assured that the film is still very much in early development. “Everybody is basically on board,” the actor said. “[Showalter] and David Wain have been working on a script. But, it’s not locked into place.”

Despite his now A-lister status, it seems Bradley Cooper may be on board for the sequel as well. Cooper’s involvement, out of everyone in the cast, seemed the most questionable due to how high in demand the actor is, but when discussing anotehr posibble sex scene with the star, Ian Black joked that “If Bradley Cooper will have me, he could be the ‘top’ this time.”

David Wain’s latest directorial effort Wanderlust opens today in theaters everywhere, while Michael Ian Black’s memoir You’re Not Doing It Right: Tales of Marriage, Sex, Death, and Other Humiliations hits store this Tuesday.
