We’ve previously revealed just how in depth the pilot for The CW’s planned somewhat-remake of the old ’80s series Beauty and the Beast will go, revealing plenty of interesting plot details that link the two titular characters as one. However, we don’t really know who will portray these character. With The CW currently in a very casting-hungry mood, with news breaking of their Arrow pilot casting major roles, it’s now time for Beauty and the Beast to do the same. And just like the superhero pilot, this is news that should definitely please fans of Smallville: Kristin Kreuk will return to television as the female lead in the fairy tale adaptation.
TV Line reports that Kristin Kreuk has landed the lead role in Beauty and the Beast, the loose remake with a prodcedural twist that The CW will possibly pick up by the time summer rolls around. Kreuk is essentially the successor of the role from past star Linda Hamilton, though there’s no exact information on who will be playing her better half.
From previous information, Kreuk will reportedly play Catherine, a New York City cop who’s mother was killed in a “car-jacking”, but Vincent (in Beast form) saved young Catherine from meeting the same demise as her mother. Fueled by this event, she becomes an officer of the city that eventually stumbles upon Vincent once more at “an old abandonded chemical warehouse”. When she discovers Vincent, the two bond by the secret of the Beast’s whereabouts, not to mention her intrigue in her childhood hero.
The CW potential-series’ first episode was written and executive produced by Without a Trace‘s Jennifer Levin andBrothers & Sisters‘ Sherri Cooper, though no director has yet been revealed.
Kreuk played the role of Lana Lang for seven seasons onSmallville, appearing in a one-time guest arc in the eighth season, effectively tying up her role. She’s appeared on Chuckafterwards in a short guest arc, but this is her first regular return to television in three years.
