Hit Anime ‘Bleach’ Turned Into A Live-Action Adaptation With ‘Wrath of the Titans’ Writer & ‘Get Smart’ Director

Anime to live action adaptations have been a great failures lately. Dragonball: EvolutionSpeed Racer, and Akira are among recent flops both at the box office and on the road to development. But, Hollywood isn’t giving up just yet. Now, Warner Brothers is throwing their hat into the ring, by trying to adapt the highly popular anime Bleach into a live-action film as well.

Variety reports that WB has hired Wrath of the Titans screenwriter Dan Mazeau to pen the live-action take on the series, with Get Smart‘s Peter Segal producing and possibly directing as well.

Bleach is an anime revolving around Ichigo, a teenager with the ability to see ghosts, and who’s family is then attacked by a Hollow (a malevolent lost soul). He accidentally absorbs the power to hunt these creatures, and dedicates his life to protecting the innocent people these Hollows attack, while helping the tortured souls find their peace.

Segal told the site, “I’ve always been a huge fan of ‘Bleach’ and have great respect for its creator Kubo Sensei and the truly original and amazing world he has created in this manga.”

No projected release date nor production start has yet been determined.
