First Set Photos from Will Smith and M. Night Shyamalan For ‘After Earth’

After Earth has been tossed around a lot of names since it’s intial development. “The film that could make or break M. Night Shyamalan’s career” seems to be an accurate one. “The movie Will Smith left Django Unchained for” is another. But, we haven’t really received our first look into the film just yet. Now, both the main star, and his director, have revealed pictures from the set of the film. And it looks quite…exotic.

For the most part, what Smith gives us is a lot more enthralling than Shyamalan (foreshadowing much?), as the pictures that Will has snapped give us more of a look at his character, and with the exotic background, just what the film will eventually look like. Shyamalan, on the other hand, has just a bunch of fucking trees and the set up of a camera. Nothing too special.

But, judging the initial story, it seems clear of why exactly there are a bunch of trees. The film, set 1,000 years into the future, the film features a young boy who navigates an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes.

We get a look at the main character in the form of Jaden Smith via one of Will’s photos, and he does look quite grown up for the role (well, more grown up than the braid-filled rugrat we remember from The Karate Kid two years ago). As for what else the film will entail of…that has yet to be determined.

Filming has literally just began for the film, written by Shyamalan and two others, for a release on June 7th, 2013.
