Earlier this week, we got a first glimpse at Barbera Hershey’s major future role on Once Upon a Time, as she’ll be playing Regina’s mother Cora later this season. But, she isn’t the only movie star headed to the fairy tale world of Storybrooke before the year is up. We reported awhile back that Sebastian Stan would be headed to the popular new series as The Mad Hatter, and now, our first look photos of Stan in his role have finally arrived!

TV Guide posted the following photos from the March 25th episode, titled “Hat Trick”, and sees Stan with two big pieces from Alice in Wonderland that fans of the story will recognize (click to enlarge):

So, just how did the Mad Hatter become mad? That’s left for us to find out. I do like Stan’s look in these pictures, but I think the biggest hurdle comes in discovering whether or not Wonderland is simply a division of the Fairy Tale world itself, it’s own separate entity, or the series will simply twist and turn the tale into it’s own interpretation. We’ve seen that happen before with Beauty and the Beast, and we already know that the Fairy Tale world is divided into kingdoms. It’s what lies in between that is the most mysterious.
