Cartoon Network Officially Announces ‘DC Nation’ Start Date; New ‘Young Justice’ Joins ‘Green Lantern’

Last month, it was revealed that Green Lantern: The Animated Series would be premiering on Cartoon Network, and from there we speculated the exact release date, along with the fact that new Young Justice episodes would premiere alongsideGreen Lantern. Though it was pure speculation on our part, we’re now here to say: WE TOLD YOU SO. Cartoon Network has officially announced just when DC Nation will be premiering next month on the television station…and the exact time of when the new block will be may just surprise you.

Cartoon Network has revealed the series premiere of Green Lantern: The Animated Series along with all-new episodes of Young Justice will debut on Saturday, March 3rd starting at 10AM.

Rounding out this branded block of original programming will be a number of shorts featuring DC Comics super heroes and characters as you have never seen them before. With fresh designs and concepts, fan favorites such as Plastic Man and Doom Patrol will finally take center stage next to the likes of Wonder Woman and Teen Titans. Bringing them to life will be the result of a collaboration with some of the top talents in the animation industry, which include award-winning Aardman Studios (Arthur Christmas, Wallace and Gromit) with its stop-motion clay animation techniques, and the unique direction and character designs of Lauren Faust (The Powerpuff Girls, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic).

In addition to these shorts, DC Nation will also feature event programming, interstitials, exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at theatrical motion pictures and an insider look into the world of all things DC Comics.

This is a somewhat unexpected announcement as DC Nation‘s reveal was originally in the Friday night timeslot. And right now, Cartoon Network’s Friday night line-up is rather empty compared to its start in the Fall. With Star Wars: The Clone Wars ending less than one week after the block kicks off, and with only reruns alongside new episodes of Generator Rex, you would think DC Nation would easily fit into the 7-8PM hour of the network’s Friday nights. Not to mention, Young Justice had been a Friday night staple for its entire first season until this point.

However, it’s nice to see that DC Nation will be a journey into new Saturday morning cartoons in a generation that is severely lacking the Saturday morning blocks.

So, what do you think? Is DC Nation‘s introduction worthy of moving Young Justice to Saturdays? Is it a smart move?
