For years, Treyarch was the red-headed step child of the Call of Duty franchise. Their games always seemed underwhelming when compared to the Modern Warfare heavy hitters, but it seemed the developer finally found a winner with Black Ops, which sold over 25 million copies. Now, a new domain registration is igniting rumors on the internet that Black Ops 2 will be the next game in the yearly war installments.
IGN is reporting that Activision has bought the domain blackops2.com, which easily points the finger at an upcoming sequel. However, there’s a good chance the publisher could simply be protecting its property, as the company owns all similar domains up to Black Ops 6.
But, a sequel is certainly not ruled out. Obviously a Call of Dutygame is being developed somewhere in Treyarch…it happens every other year, so obviously it’s bound to happen this year. And honestly, when it was released, Black Ops was a big household name tossed around everywhere. Everyone, even non-gamers, knew the term Black Ops when people were discussing the game and what it meant, so perhaps Treyarch and Activision are taking the critical praise and well-known name and rolling with it?
We’ll keep you updated on more information on the next Call of Duty game, and if it is Black Ops 2, as it is revealed in the future.
