Red Skull to Appear in ‘The Avengers’!?

Hugo Weaving as Red Skull in 'Captain America: The First Avenger'

Merchandising has spoiled plenty this past week when it came to The Amazing Spider-Man. But, now it’s time for the tie-in promotions to take on Marvel’s other big film of 2012: The Avengers. We’ve known that Loki is the villain of the film for some time now, and the Skrulls have been the rumored minions to the trickster God as well. But, now there’s a product description that may have just spoiled that Captain America’s Red Skull may be appearing in the film as well.

Then again, he still may not. But, before we get into that, here is the product description from Marvel’s The Avengers movie HeroClix collection:

“Charging straight out of theaters and onto your tabletop, Marvel’s the Avengers Movie HeroClix set features heroes like Captain America and Thor as they battle the villainy of the Red Skull and Loki! Each Counter-Top display includes standard one-figure boosters as well as new three-figure “Team Packs”! Team Packs are designed with strong thematic undertones – play a Hydra force or defend freedom with a S.H.I.E.L.D. team pack!”

Now, the reason we say to hold the phone is simple. Just as our source MovieWeb says, the line of HeroClix includes 24 figures, which is a lot of characters for the Marvel movie universe. Toy maker NECA may just be taking characters from other Marvel films and stuffing them in to the HeroClix set.

However, there’s still a chance that Red Skull could indeed show up in some capacity. When we last saw him, we was transported to a realm that looked very similar to Asgard. Plus, with the villain’s love of mythology, a tie-in to Loki wouldn’t be too far off indeed. Hugo Weaving could easily show up as the character extremely briefly in the beginning of the film, or even in a post-credits scene afterwards (possibly to set up an Avengers sequel).

The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon, and starring Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Colbie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Tom Hiddleston, and more, will be released on May 4th.

What do you think? Will the Red Skull show up in The Avengers in five months? Let us know in the comments.
