Last week, it was reported that Universal was interested in a sequel to their hit Bridesmaids without Kristen Wiig, seeing how the star, producer, and co-writer said it wasn’t in her plans at the moment. One of the biggest ideas being tossed around was the fact it would revolve around Melissa McCarthy’s character of Megan. Now, McCarthy is saying that if that’s the plan, you can count her out.
The actress spoke with E! Online, and when asked about aBridesmaids 2 without Wiig, she said, ”God, I wouldn’t want to. I would never want to. I think it’s a terrible idea.” As for the studio’s plan to put her in the main character role, McCarthy said, ”I don’t [know] anything about it. But I know that nobody wants to do it unless it’s great. If it is, I will show up wherever those ladies are.”
So, there you have it. All the ladies are sticking to their guns, and if there’s to be a sequel without Kristen Wiig, there won’t be a sequel at all…that is, with the current original cast. Universal could always pull the clean sweep, have the story rooted around a whole new cast of characters, and call it Bridesmaids 2, but that sounds more like a direct-to-video joint more than anything.
We’ll have more info on the Bridesmaids sequel in the near future.
