Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman Will Return to Direct ‘Paranormal Activity 4′

Seriously, how great is Paramount in getting crap done this week when it’s come to Paranormal Activity 4? Monday the film was confirmed, and just yesterday the sequel received a release date. Now, for the first time in the series’ history, directors will return to the franchise as Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Paranormal Activity 3) will helm the next installment.

Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive details, saying the duo are at the very least in final talks to reprise their directorial roles for the fourth film. There’s no official statement from Paramount, but it’s expected sometime soon.

Honestly, this comes as no real surprise, given that their direction was praised by most critics, and the box office numbers of the third film were the best the series had yet to offer. So, Paramount sees both of these tidbits as a winning combination, and of course they were in hot pursuit to return.

It’ll be interesting to see because we’ve never had repeat directors in the series before. Oren Peli directed the first one, and continues to produce the series, giving the franchise its proper direction, and it was seemingly expected that if anyone would return to the director’s chair, it would either be the duo or Peli himself.

Also interesting is just where the series’ story direction goes from here. There’s a chance that perhaps with the two’s return to the franchise, they could indeed be continuing the story they touched upon in the last film, and focus on Kristy and Katie’s teenage years in which the haunting “happened again”. It seems like a very logical step, and may have been one of the more enticing arguments Paramount had with them behind closed doors to bring them back.

Paranormal Activity 4 hits theaters October 19th, 2012, with the third film being released on home video later this month.
