Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift Cast in ‘Les Miserables’

Taylor Swift joins the Broadway-to-film adaptation

As the year finished out, it seemed that Les Miz was in a bit of a jam, with top actresses vying for the part of Eponine. Now, as the film gets ready for shooting soon, it’s been revealed that not only has the role of Eponine been won by Taylor Swift, but Amanda Seyfried will join the cast alongside her as well.

Both girls have been reportedly offered their respective parts, with Seyfriend gaining the role of Cosette, and both are expected to sign no problem. Swift beat out Glee star Lea Michele, Tony award winner Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood for her part, while Seyfried’s involvement is new, but she is no newcomer to movie-musicals (Mamma Mia!).

The film is expected to begin rehearsals at the end of this month, with the full cast including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Anne Hathaway, and Helena Bonham Carter. Shooting will begin in March with director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) helming the project.

Seyfried seems like a solid pick, but Swift’s casting is the most unstable out of the two. She passed up three very trained actresses, and Swift doesn’t quite have her acting chops down, as she’s only starred in one motion picture as a fictional character (Valentine’s Day) with her next role to be voiceover only (The Lorax). She must have really blown them away in the auditions…well, either that or all the other actresses were either too expensive, too schedule conflicted, or didn’t have the same vocal talent (sorry Scarlett, you know it’s true). It’ll be interesting to see how fans and overall audiences react.

Les Miserables is currently set for a December 7th, 2012 release date.
