Vin Diesel Confirms ‘Fast Six’ and ‘Fast Seven’

Fast Five was one of the biggest hits of the entire year, pleasing both critics and audiences. Making plenty of money, we know that a sequel was already on the way. But, actor Vin Diesel has reported that the upcoming sixth film in the franchise is so big that it has been split up in to two films by the studio.

Diesel spoke with THR, and told them that Universal said the script was so big that it would have to be split into two films:

“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space. We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’”

Essentially, the next two films will be looking to retain all of the large cast, while also adding on the returns of Eva Mendes and Michelle Rodriguez, as teased by the film’s after-credits sequence.
Furthermore, with what sounds to be an adjoining plot, it seems the two films could be shooting back-to-back if possible. Director Justin Lin has time to iron that out, especially since the film won’t be shooting until sometime next year. Lin has said that he already has the 12-minute final scene of Fast Six, as he filmed it during Fast Five because he wanted to ensure that he could get it.Fast Six is set to come out on May 24th, 2013, with Diesel and the entire cast expected to reprise their roles.
