With a release date set, it seemed like Thor 2 was moving in a fantastic direction. Meetings with the cast were occuring between they and director Patty Jenkins, and it seems like everything was on track for the filming to occur this coming summer. However, now Marvel needs to act fast, as news is surfacing that Jenkins has left the film.
Deadline is reporting the director has departed due to creative differences. It’s said that the general feeling is that she’ll work on one of Marvel’s superhero films, but want it to be an original film instead of a sequel. No word yet on what film that would be, or who the studio is looking to fill Jenkins’ leaving.
Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and more will return to the sequel, but Hemsworth will be wielding the hammer first in May’s The Avengers. It’s just one part of Hemsworth’s truly breakout year, as he stars in Snow White and the Huntsman,The Cabin in the Woods, and more.
We’ll bring you more news on Thor 2 as it develops in the studio’s search for a new person to helm the sequel.
Thor 2 is due to release on July 26th, 2013.
