We’ve spoken very much about the Evil Dead remake, since it’s conception, and now as the film gets ready for filming. Sony announced that they would be distributing the film, and now, the studio has released just when the remake will hit theaters.
STYD is reporting that Sony has announced the film will be relesaed on April 12th, 2013. Filming is expected to begin in March in New Zealand. No casting has yet surfaced, but that will be ironed out before March.
The film will be directed by Fede Alvarez, with Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Rob Tapert producing, and Diablo Cody co-writing the film after rewrites.
Here’s the extended synopsis previously revealed:
Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
The “new spin” is the motivation behind the trip, with the lead character taking his younger sister to the family’s cabin to help her kick her drug addiction. Without her drugs she becomes insane and difficult to control, which makes it impossible to see that she’s actually possessed.
The worst part, though, is that one of the friends unleashes the demons by deciphering the Book of the Dead and reading the passages aloud.
