‘Glee’ Will Pay Tribute to Michael Jackson

After a great episode last night, which included New Directions singing three Jackson hits (5, Janet, and Michael), Ryan Murphy has announced that they will in fact be singing more of The King of Pop. Just like Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga before him, Glee will be doing it’s first tribute to a male musical icon in the form of a Michael Jackson episode.

The episode will be airing on January 24th, and has in fact already begun filming. Most of the hour will be filmed before the cast and crew break for the holidays, and will finish when they return in early January.

Murphy and FOX spoke with the Jackson estate for sometime in order to talk them in to the idea, but now with their approval the writers are working incredibly fast to pen an episode in order to shoot before the Christmas/New Year’s break. In a season where Glee has had plenty of problems with trying to find a rhythm in writing, I don’t necessarily think this is a fantastic idea. But, we’ll just have to see how it goes.

As for music, expect 10-12 M.J. songs to be sung by the cast, says TV Guide. The series has already come out with renditions of “Thriller”, “P.Y.T.”, and of course, “Man in the Mirror”. It’s unclear which songs the tribute will include at this point, however.
