2011 Spike VGAs Recap: Photos, Trailers, and More

Last night, the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards aired live from California, and with it came plenty of reveals, and anticipation. For the most part, the awards were a mess. I think in reality, only three of four actual awards were presented within the show’s two hour time span. The rest simply consisted of hyping up the Game of the Year award, telling viewers to go vote, or what really had people talking: the amazing reveals.

First, let’s get to the photos of the night. A ton of celebrities were on hand, such as VGAs host Zachary Levi, who did a fantastic job, Charlie Sheen, Will.I.Am, and even Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, accepting the award inducting The Legend of Zelda as the first entry into the Gaming Hall of Fame. Take a look below:

Now, on to the real meat of the night: the reveals!

The must buzzed about title going into the night was the promised PS3 exclusive The Last of Us. Going in to last night’s awards, this title only released a vague screenshot, and a very mysterious trailer that revealed nothing. Now, the debut trailer is right below for your enjoyment:

One of the best things about the game is that once the developer logo for Naughty Dog, who created Uncharted and Jak & Daxter, the crowd went absolutely insane. And, the reveal also works incredible wonders. Personally, it has me really excited for the title, although no release date has yet been announced. The cinematic is just absolutely beautiful, and definitely sparks excitement.

Among other big reveals of the night, we also had a short trailer for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots. We, unfortunately, don’t get to see the heroes’ side of things, but we do see the villain’s very Occupy Wall Street type of perspective, if OWS was brought to an extreme level:

No release date has yet been revealed either for the upcoming follow-up to the successful Rainbow Six: Vegas series.

Finally, we have another short trailer for you to reveal that The Amazing Spider-Man is back! The movie tie-in has a lot to offer, especially considering that Spider-Man 2 is seen as the ultimate tie-in game when it comes to this type of genre. Spidey returns with an all-new look, taken from the upcoming reboot, and the trailer features what seems more like what would be a side mission, with the web slinger fighting robots. However, it’s the gigantic robot fight that the wall crawler finds himself in that has people really excited, and mirrors something out of God of War III:

The Amazing Spider-Man will release right around the time of the movie, which hits theaters on July 3rd, 2012.

You can head over to GameTrailers’ Youtube page to see all the trailers from last night, including the reveal that Tony Hawk is stepping back and bringing back the new with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, a gameplay-ish trailer for Bioshock: Infinite, a first look at Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Hitman: Absolution, an all-new Tekken, Epic Games’ all-new Fortnite, and so very many more.
