New Episodes of ‘Arrested Development’ Go To Netflix

Ever since Mitch Hurwitz and the entire Arrested Development cast announced last month that the series would be coming back for one more season, followed by a film, there was been a great amount of skepticism. The two companies that were reportedly vying for the rights were Showtime and Netflix. Now, it’s being reported tonight that Netflix has won the rights to the all-new season.

Variety is reporting that Netflix is incredibly close to signing a deal. 20th Century Fox and Imagine Television have said they plan on airing the new episodes in early 2013.

Producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard released the following joint statement:

Bringing a series back from cancellation almost never happens, but then, ‘Arrested’ always was about as unconventional as they get, so it seems totally appropriate that this show that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once again.

This is a very important development forward for the series-to-movie. Hurtwitz has said he plans on shooting the television show in the summer, and the actors revealed that most of their schedules are open to shoot the new episodes. From there, the film is scheduled to shoot right afterwards, and will most likely be under 20th Century Fox.
