A super geek with a deadpan delivery, Simon Pegg’s character (‘Benji Dunn’) provides some comedic relief in between death-defying stunts and adrenaline-packed action sequences that dominate ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.’
While it is well known that Tom Cruise is reprising his role as super spy ‘Ethan Hunt’ for the fourth ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie, but if you missed ‘Mission: Impossible III,’ you may not have realized Simon Pegg is also returning to the film series as ‘Benji Dunn’ or as Simon says, “the ultimate IT guy, if you need to hack into something, he’s your guy.”
As you can see in the above featurette, not only does Simon successfully pay tribute to ‘Abu’ (the monkey in ‘Aladdin’) by wearing a bright yellow bellhop outfit but also turns himself into a three-armed monkey by tucking a fake arm into his jacket sleeve so he can cleverly snag something right under the bad guys’ noses with his real hand. Of course, employing the Boy Scout’s motto to always “be prepared,” ‘Benji’ has “brought a whole pack of human appendages,” because as Simon accurately jokes, “he’s a hoarder.”
The light-hearted actor also reveals a few of his own life lessons in the video clip, such as thinking of the iconic ‘Mission: Impossible’ theme music as motivational tool for any difficult task, including cooking or riding a bike. You know, the really challenging things in life!
Like Jeremy Renner’s character, ‘Brandt,’ we may have some concern that ‘Benji’ doesn’t seem to be taking things seriously enough but in the end, we know he would always catch us if we fall (or jump, as the case may be)!
After the IMF is blamed for a bombing at the Kremlin, the surviving members of the team must go rogue to clear the organization’s name. Led by ‘Ethan Hunt’ (Tom Cruise), ‘Brandt’ (Jeremy Renner), ‘Benji Dunn’ (Simon Pegg) and ‘Jane Carter’ (Paula Patton) must work together to uncover who was responsible for the terrorist attack and try to prevent another one.
‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor and Léa Seydoux. Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Brad Bird, ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ will be released in IMAX theaters on December 16, 2011 and nationwide on December 21, 2011.
