Little do some of you may know, The Bourne Legacy is fastly approaching, with a release date in late summer of next year. The movie has been filmed somehwhat in Long Island, and mostly in Manila in The Phillipines. Now, with Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol coming out, lead actor Jeremy Renner is finally starting to talk about the upcoming spin-off, and reveals not just his character, but the villain involved.
Empire exclusively spoke with Renner, hoping to get in depth on the upcoming spin-off. And he opened up just a little taste. ”My character is called Aaron Cross, but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it’s a new programme and new characters.”
Now, in the film series one of the big operations was called Operation Treadstone. It was a government process in which they created and used an elite group of assassins, one of which being Jason Bourne. We learned last film that David Webb, Bourne’s real self, volunteered for this operation. But, how will it be involved in the spin-off?
Empire asked Renner if Treadstone was still involved, and the actor said, “Yeah, it’s that same deal, it’s just a new set of agents with a different leash. It’s the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you’ll know it’s a Bourne movie.”
With Treadstone also comes a trio of familiar faces. Joan Allen will be back for her third straight film as CIA Deputy Director Pamela Landy, Ezra Kramer as Scott Glenn, the director of the CIA, and Albert Finney expands his small role from Ultimatumas Dr. Albert Hirsch, who holds a very vital key to Treadstone, as he was responsible for creating the operation’s personas, i.e. Jason Bourne. So, could Aaron Cross be another one of these Treadstone personas? It seems like all signs are definitely pointing to yes.
The film also includes Rachel Weisz as the female lead, Edward Norton as one of the main villains, Stacy Keach, and more.
The Bourne Legacy will be release on August 3rd 2012, moved up from the previous set date of October.
But, you can catch Renner first in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol on Dcember 16th in IMAX, and other theaters on December 21st, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters in March, andThe Avengers on May 4th, 2012.
