Greetings, Soapsters,
Welcome to the inaugural post of Ms. Dawn’s SoapDish! I’ve been a devoted soap fan for decades, and I am so pleased to have the opportunity to share that love (and my opinions) with you. As we all know, soap fans are passionate, devoted and opinionated. I am no different. Although the soap landscape has changed with a significant drop in viewers since the heyday of viewership, the love for serialized stories goes on unabated. With this column, I hope to share my opinions, insight and info about the soaps that remain on the canvas. I want you to share your views also. Let me know what you think! With no further ado, let’s dish about The Bold and the Beautiful whose storyline has been hot and heavy lately.
The Bold and the Beautiful has been heating up lately with the Steffy, Hope and Liam triangle. Bill joined forces with Steffy to break up the virginal Hope and not so virginal Liam. Bill encouraged Steffy to get involved with Liam, his son. But, dear soapsters, not so long ago Bill was professing his undying love for Steffy, and vowing to dissolve his marriage to Kate (Hope’s aunt). Love, love, love, these “family ties”.
Needless to say, Steffy and Bill’s machinations resulted in Hope and Liam’s broken engagement and Liam giving Hope’s discarded ring to Steffy. Steffy and Liam got married on a beautiful mountaintop in Aspen, while Hope watched helplessly from a stalled gondola (Steffy, you heffa, you!)
This story has been deliciously over the top. From the broken engagement, hasty rebound marriage to the slow and steady reveal of Steffy’s diabolical actions to get hitched to a man, ANY man. Ah, poor Steffy, such a needy doorknob, and everyone gets a turn. I don’t know if I believe her protestations of undying love and devotion for Liam, as she professed the same undying love for his father not so long ago.
I truly enjoy the work of Jacqueline Macinnes Wood, who makes us see the hunger for true love and acceptance behind Steffy’s actions. On the other hand, not loving her mom’s (Taylor, the psychiatrist) behavior during this storyline. Even after Steffy divulged (partially) her recent nefarious activities, Taylor turned a blind eye to her daughter’s manipulations. (Ummmmm, don’t think I would be taking a turn on your couch for therapy, Doc!) Physician, heal thyself!
The Bold and the Beautiful has been funny, exasperating, intriguing and involving for me. I must watch to see what happens next. You got me, BB.
Has The Bold and the Beautiful ensnared you also? What is your favorite pairing? Why? Worst pairing? Most outlandish storyline? Share, dish, my fellow soapsters, I want to hear from you.
