It’s been a couple of months without The Doctor in our lives, and we’re all waiting for that special blue box underneath the Christmas Tree. Today, BBC has announced not only the title for the Christmas special that will air worldwide on Christmas Day, but also the full trailer for this year’s special, which does in fact feature another special blue box.
The title of the episode, as indicated by the trailer above, will be called “The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe”. The synopsis of the episode reads, “Evacuated to a house in Dorset from war-torn London, Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, are greeted by a madcap caretaker whose mysterious Christmas gift leads them into a magical wintry world…”
The special premiered on BBC’s Children In Need charity marathon. To find out how you can help the cause, you click here.
No word yet if Amy, Rory, or River will be in the Christmas special, though it’s unlikely given that the season ended with the three happily rejoicing learning The Doctor is alive, but he still ventured off alone. Does this mean they’ll return, or an all new companion will join the Time Lord?
With rumors surfacing that due to the split season, the next one won’t debut until Fall 2012, there’s both a likely and unlikely chance we’ll see some footage from what’s to come. But, it could very well be revealed, at least, the title of The Doctor’s season premiere.
Doctor Who airs on BBC, BBC America, and other stations worldwide.
