It’s clear that with the penultimate film in The Twilight Sagabeing released this weekend, most of the new releases as competition don’t stand a chance. But, just how much is Breaking Dawn set to open to? Well, the midnight numbers are in, and it gained a small margin over the record for the franchise set by Eclipse.
Breaking Dawn Part 1 opened to $30.25 million in select theaters last night, creating just $250,000 increase overEclipse‘s midnight opening of $30 million. New Moon earned $26.3 million in its midnight screening when it opened.
Currently, Hollywood box office analysts have the film pegged to open at $142+ million this weekend, which is set to either match or exceed the $142.8 million debut set by the second film in the franchise New Moon.
